The scope of this study was to identify psychosocial repercussions and factors related to the experience of domestic violence within the family. It involved a quantitative, analytical study conducted with students from public schools in the urban area of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. The sample was calculated considering a 95% confidence interval, in a population of 43,796 students, corresponding to 381 students. As cluster sampling was used, with a design effect, the sample size was doubled (n = 762). Data was collected on individual variables of the students and their guardians; the students responded to the diagnostic phrases of the domestic violence inventory (DVI). The Social Exclusion Index was used as a contextual variable. The data was subjected to multilevel statistical analysis using R and SAS programs. Approximately one-third of the participants experienced domestic violence within the family, with significant psychosocial repercussions. This experience was related to both individual and contextual factors. The conclusion drawn was that the experience of domestic violence within the family resulted in psychosocial repercussions on the emotional and behavioral subscales of the DVI and was associated with the older age groups of students and medium and high levels of social exclusion.
